Chris Wood Previews Cordon, Talks Walking Dead Similarities
The 2015 fall TV season may be months away, but that doesn’t mean we
haven’t already chosen our new shows! At the top of the list?
Cordon, a new quarantine show from
The Vampire Diaries co-creator Julie Plec. If Julie’s involvement weren’t enough to get us excited (which it always will be), then the casting of
TVD actor Chris Wood (Kai) would be. Chris recently chatted with
Access Hollywood about his role in the new project. What did he have to say about its similarities with
The Walking Dead and the heroism of his character? Read on to find out!
“There’s nothing supernatural,” Chris said of
Cordon, a
reimagining of a Belgian drama of the same name. “It’s all very real.
The disease is a real, highly evolved virus that just runs rampant in
the city of Atlanta and just spreads so quickly that they have no choice
but to lock it down. Yeah, it’s very
Walking Dead in the post-apocalyptic feel.”
Yep, we are
so in. How will Chris’ character fit into all of
this? Chris will play bad guy-turned-cop Jake, one of the unlikely
heroes who will (eventually) rise to the occasion when he is stuck
inside of the quarantine. Chris noted that this would be quite the shift
for viewers who are used to seeing him as sociopathic witch Kai on
TVD:
“Yeah, it’s going to be a nice twist for fans of Kai to see I’m
actually a good guy this time. He’s an unlikely hero. He’s a guy who’s
had sort of a tough life leading up to where we meet him and we don’t
necessarily really know everything about why he’s so hardened and why he
suppresses things and he’s very internal.”
Chris added of his character: “His instinct when he gets stuck inside
of the cordon is to protect himself. And he has a really bad temper.
And so, in moments when people are put inside of situations where they
feel like their lives are in danger or they’ve been screwed over by
friends or by the circumstances of life, they sort of lash out and
that’s this guy. He has a hard time coping when he first gets in there.
But, as the show goes on, he sort of becomes a hero for us.”
The former
Carrie Diaries actor seems very excited about the
the show. He and the rest of the cast got a private screening of the
pilot, and he described it as: “ it’s so alive and so exciting and so
different. And so intense and beautiful and terrifying.” We can’t wait
to see it!
So now what do you think of the above article and new show Walking Dead Character peeps? Rip Off based on success of the walking dead?
OK - So now, let's check out the latest about Fear The Walking Dead. Our soon to be second favorite show on television.

AMC today announced that it has placed an initial two-season order for a
companion series to “The Walking Dead,” the #1 show on television among
adults 18-49 for going on three seasons.
The new series (title to be announced) will be set in Los Angeles and
focused on new characters and storylines. The show’s first season will
consist of six one-hour episodes and premiere on AMC in late summer. The
show’s second season will air in 2016.
Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert from “The
Walking Dead” are executive producers of the new series, which, like
the original, is being produced by AMC Studios. Dave Erickson (“Marco
Polo,” “Sons of Anarchy”), who co-created and co-wrote the pilot with
Kirkman, is an executive producer and showrunner. The series will star
Cliff Curtis (“Missing,” “Gang Related”), Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, “Sons
of Anarchy”), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and
Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm).
“We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying
companion series to the number one show on television. From the
beginning of ‘The Walking Dead’ on AMC, we’ve been asked questions about
what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it
looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’ Through this new series,
we’re going to find out,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “Robert
Kirkman, Dave Erickson and their writing team, along with an
incomparable set of producers, cast and crew have created something
remarkable and clearly distinct. We respectfully follow the request of
Monty Python as we bring out (the latest of) our Dead.”
“We feel empowered by this two-season commitment, a serious show of
faith from our network partner AMC,” Kirkman said. “I personally take it
as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we’ve accomplished our
goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the
original show and expand the world I created while at the same time
having something new to say with this story. I’m very grateful that we
now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans
that we really haven’t scratched the surface yet when it comes to ‘The
Walking Dead.’”
“This vote of confidence from our partners at AMC is gratifying, to say
the least,” Erickson said. “We’ve been blessed with amazing writers and a
stellar cast – and we can’t wait to build this apocalyptic drama over
the next two seasons and hopefully beyond.”
In addition, AMC Global, the international AMC-branded television
network, announced it has acquired the international television rights
to the series, which it plans to air within 24 hours of the U.S.
premiere. AMC Global launched in late 2014 and is available in over 115
countries and territories throughout Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa
and the Middle East.
